Halloween in my childhood didn’t ‘happen’ – I can’t recall it. We all looked forward to Bonfire night and had some really mad parties with our neighbours with bobbing apples and marshmallow fights, hot jackets and roasting chestnuts. The Mums really made it happen & then the Dads would take over in the garden with a display of about 5-10 fireworks which we thought were amazing! Oh and the sparklers gave us endless screams.
I think Halloween is timed just right – the changing seasons when we are truly into Autumn and the woodland floors are carpeted with a blaze of colours we love to wear in the autumn months.
Isn’t this true? For example, we love a splash of orange, marmalade, russet, terracotta, red or rose, together with a slice of brown (& there are several tones to choose from.) Purple shows up but straight black just cools it all down.
I am not a colour expert but know the colours that work in a woodland setting and whatever season you are you will find a warm tone that suits your natural colouring hair, skin & eyes.
Today we have Halloween dressing up parades in our home (and up and down the street) -all the kids’ outfits are orange, red, purple, green – the pumpkin head, witch, devil and ghost – oh a splash of white – yes I like that.
All the sweet wrappers are the same colours too! Genius, she says with a giggle.
So the pumpkins are for sale ready to be marked with joyous/ghastly smiles or used as a pillow: this is Ollie-Jim having a rest – he’s even a russet dog!
So what are the rules? – to check out the Halloween sweet wrappers to remind us to pop on those Autumnal colours to make us feel seasonal and look darn good!
Take a look at these Autumn shoots that ooze with warmth…….
