Another year and another road trip to the USA – this time New York & New England. We introduced my girls to Manhatten, needless to say, just like their mum, they loved it.
They were both moved to tears at Ground Zero – full of great respect – a humbling experience for them.
After filling our boots with the Big Apple, which has to be good for the soul, my husband found us a quaint condo in the beautiful Adirondack mountains. Just a 6 hour drive from NYC, but with it’s pristine lakes, rustic towns & pine clad mountains, its a million miles away. This love affair for the USA started some 28 years ago when Mike was camp counsellor & I was travelling. We had fallen in love all over again.

Our next destination was 400 east miles, on the weather beaten coastline of northern Maine to hook up with some old & very good friends whom we met in the most southerly town in the world – fin del mundo (Ushuia – Chile), some 17 years ago. Needless to say, in order to maximise photo ops of quintessential New England, we took the back roads- the soft light over there is incredible & timing was perfect for their first professional family portrait, their son, Otto is just 4 months old.
We stumbled excitedly on a 1970 Buick Estate Wagon, the exact model that my now hubby & I bought for £500 back in 1990 & then lived in for 3 months whilst racking up 6000 miles enroute from NYC to California.
Finally I met up with fellow professional Nikki Baxendale from New York & swapped notes.
As I write, Superstorm Sandy has really made an impact on her family – cut off electricity and stopped her family leaving the house for days we wish them lots of love x.
